Mary Elizabeth Stephenson was the sixth child of Thomas Stephenson & Ann Wainwright christened April 13th, 1879 at Stockton, Co Durham.
Mary was living at home in 1881 at 13 Lawson St, Stockton with her 4 older brothers & parents.
In 1891 Mary, her parents & 2 younger sisters & 2 brothers were living at 42 Disraeli St, Linthorpe, Middlesbrough.
Mary married Thomas William Cecil Mossom in Jan-March 1901 at Middlesbrough. Thomas was born July-September 1878 at Middlesbrough, the son of Elizabeth Jane Laverick & William Mossom.
At the time of the 1901 census Mary & Thomas were living at 43 Holt St, Middlesbrough & Thomas was a butcher.
By 1911 Mary & Thomas had moved to 3a Jedburgh St, Middlesbrough & Thomas was now a butcher (manager). They had 3 children at this time – Eveline (8), Hilda (6) & Olive (3). They also had a boarder, Robert Wilcock, a railway wagon examiner.
Soon after the 1911 census their fourth daughter, Norah, was born.
Daughter Eveline married Charles James Clinkard, a shoemaker, in 1927 & they were to have 4 children.
Daughter Hilda married John Charles Welton, a ship's purser, in Lambeth, London in 1929 & they were to have one daughter.
A notice was published in 1930 showing that Thomas, butcher & poulterer, carrying on business at 24 Newport Rd, Middlesbrough was bankrupt.
Daughter Norah married Dick Bradley, a butcher, in 1933 & they were to have one daughter.
The 1939 register shows Mary, listed as married & of private means, living with daughter Eveline & husband Charles Clinkard & family. They were living at ‘Strath Conne’, Albion Terrace, Saltburn & Marske by the Sea, Yorks.
Mary died in Jan-March 1963, aged 83, at Whitby, Yorks.
Thomas of 17 High Green, Great Ayton, Middlesbrough died on October 23rd, 1964, aged 86, at The General Hospital, Guisborough, N. Yorks. Probate was granted to widowed daughter Eveline Clinkard & his effects were £2,324.
